Physical models for hydraulic tests

Hydrostadium has within its premises, a facility for physical models. These models allow testing different configurations of hydraulic flows in addition to or instead of mathematical modeling.

The facility is composed of a lower water tank. Its pumped water is used to supply a flow divider configured as needed. This divider directly feeds the physical model serving as a head pond at the same time.

Particular cases have been tested on this equipment allowing the completion of different designs of water movements, to provide corrective adjustments to ensure the well done work to achieve.

Energy dissipater structure

The design of the energy dissipater of Moutiers is a particularly complex with important hydraulic safety issues. The tests allowed just sizing of the energy dissipater work and optimization of its release in the Isère River.

Transit of the flood

The model was used to check the level of the 100-year floodplain of the Roya and size the structures of the dam as part of its restructuring. Mathematical models which had been carried out previously did not obtain homogeneous and sufficiently accurate results due to the configuration of the site.

Opening of VLH turbines

On the basis of a new design, the VLH turbines are liftable during floods to free the openings. Modeling helped to check the risk of sedimentation under the VLH and validate solutions to eliminate any risk of obstruction with the lowering of the turbines at the bottom of the opening.

The device of the instream flow release of the plant has been modeled. This model was made to find a solution to the work carried out with the aim of settling water in the last basin to allow control of the overflow water level.
