Civil engineering maintenance works on the gallery – ASASP (64)

Project owner EDF Petite-Hydro - GEH PYRENEES

Type of project Remediation of defects in the gallery and surge shaft.

Main technical features

The ASASP development, commissioned in 1962, is located in the Gave d’Aspe valley, upstream of the municipality of Asasp. The intake for the ASASP power plant is located in the municipality of Bedous (64) and turbines the waters of the Gave d’Aspe. The dam diverts part of the Gave’s flow into a headrace canal located on the left bank, which then continues through an underground gallery to supply the ASASP power plant. The 12 km-long headrace gallery has a horseshoe-shaped profile, with a flow cross-section of 10.75 m² in competent rock, and a circular profile with a diameter of 3.60 m in poor ground. The surge shaft is of the diaphragm or throttled type. It is lined over its entire height, with a variable diameter of 10 m between 385 and 415 mNGF, and 8 m between 385 and 373 mNGF.

Specific constraints

The distribution of defects along a long linear structure and concurrent activities with the ecological continuity project.
