Hydrostadium, engineering serving hydropower

Hydrostadium supports public- and private-sector stakeholders in the development, modernisation and optimisation of hydropower facilities.

From feasibility studies and the design of structures through to construction supervision, our teams draw on comprehensive expertise in hydraulics, civil engineering and electromechanical equipment. Our objective: to design high-performance, reliable facilities tailored to the energy and environmental challenges of each territory.

Hydropower: a controllable and sustainable energy source

A hydropower plant converts the energy of water into electricity. The head and turbine flow rate determine the installed capacity. Each project requires a detailed analysis of the site, the hydraulic regime and the regulatory constraints. Hydrostadium designs tailor-made solutions to optimise production while ensuring long-term operational safety.

Solutions tailored to each project

Small hydropower plants (PAH) generate electricity to supply isolated sites or feed it into the grid. They are classified according to their capacity:

  • Mini hydropower plant: capacity below 2,000 kW
  • Micro hydropower plant: capacity below 500 kW
  • Pico hydropower plant: capacity below 20 kW

These facilities make use of local resources and contribute to diversifying the energy mix. Hydrostadium provides support to assess their potential, design the structures and ensure their performance.

Clean and renewable energy

Clean and renewable energy

Hydropower harnesses the natural water cycle and generates no direct greenhouse gas emissions during production. It is a renewable, dispatchable energy source that complements other low-carbon sources and can respond rapidly to fluctuations in demand.

Reconciling production with environmental requirements

The design of hydropower developments incorporates multiple considerations : ecological continuity, management of reserved flows, water quality, landscape integration and control of noise impacts.

Hydrostadium develops technical solutions that meet regulatory requirements while ensuring the robustness and performance of the facilities.

A driver of development for local communities

A driver of development for local communities

Hydroelectric projects mobilize a wide range of skills: civil engineering, hydraulics, electromechanical engineering, automation and maintenance. They generate local employment for the construction, operation and maintenance of facilities.

In the long term, the associated royalties and revenues contribute to the resources of local authorities and strengthen the projects’ local roots.

Facilities adapted to energy needs

Hydroelectricity relies on different types of facilities:

  • Run-of-river facilities: production directly linked to the natural flow of the watercourse, without significant storage.
  • Pondage facilities: limited storage capacity enabling production to be adapted to the most favorable hours.
  • Reservoir facilities: significant storage capacity enabling energy to be shifted from one season to another.
