A Fish Pass on the Dordogne
13 months after the first excavation work, the fish pass on the right bank of the Mauzac dam was commissioned on 17 June 2020.
Multi-species
Its objective—to enable a broad range of fish, from shad to salmon, including eels, to migrate upstream—has been achieved, as the cameras installed in the counting room detected migratory fish within the first few hours. And since the structure has been well designed and built, we suspect that some fish may be making several passes!
This fish pass, comprising 22 pools, has enabled 19 different species to migrate upstream.
Ecological continuity
These fish passes are essential for fish migration. The Mauzac dam is not the only one to be equipped with one.
