The First Hydroelectric Snowmaking Plant!
Hydrostadium was pleased to install a hydroelectric power plant in an artificial snowmaking plant. A first in France! The project began in 2017, when a collaboration was established with Serre-Chevalier, the ski area in the Hautes-Alpes at Chantemerle (municipality of Saint-Chaffrey).
Commissioning after 5 years of studies
Following potential, feasibility and preliminary design studies carried out by Hydrostadium, the power plant was completed and produced its first kWh on 4 March 2022, the commissioning date.
Key characteristics:
• Gross head: 360 m
• Net head: 305 m
• Unit: vertical single-jet HPP Pelton turbine (180 kW)
• Turbined flow rate: 72 l/s
• Reserved flow rate: 10 l/s
